I would like to a sub domain off of our site succesfully. Example: One of our main sites is about antiques. I have a bunch of material on birds. I would to put this on a subdomain of birds.X**.com. What is the most successful way to do this? Do I link from the main domain to sub domain? Looking for any good tips. I am looking for the same theory as used here at digitalpoint. They have the forums subdomained. I want to make sure I do not do anything that would kill our rankings. Thanks for the help.
Your subdomain will be seen as a separate site. If you have lots of content that is separable from your main site and your main site has lots of content, go ahead. Yes you can link to it from your main site. If you don't have a lot of pages in your main site, you're probably better off adding more pages there.
If it were that off topic I would create a separate site all together. Don't chance loosing PR or engage G filters by using your healthy sites weight. Once you have your new site going you can use antiques with bird themes to back link new site and raise its PR naturally. Monster.com and About.com get away with things you and I would get panelized for. D
I have lot of subdomain sites. I like to make subdomain sites if my sites belong to that catagory of the main domain
first try to find out domain because it works like a keywords, if not possible then target your sub-domain. only problem is that some directory only accept top-domain in that case you can't submit your sub domain site.
