I completely agree with you. But there needs to be a big emphasis on "good" because crap articles won't be picked up by anyone.

Luckily, the meaning of "good article" is a bit strewn. You may not necessarily be a good writer, but if the reader gets the message and learns something, then it is a good writer. The same thing goes vice versa.

But anyways...Yes, submitting articles is a great way to build backlinks.
