i concur... Forget email marketing especially if you don't know what you're doing. Just google "website marketing" and read some ebooks about how to do search engine optimization.
Email marketing is STILL one of the best forms of marketing out there. The key is knowing how to do it properly, without sending spam and without making your subscribers mad. What's alarming about this thread is that it sounds like the original poster already plans on spamming his list before he ever gets a single opt-in. There are plenty of resources out there, both paid and free, for someone to learn the proper way to conduct a campaign.
