Almost everyone has been told by somebody else that do blog commenting to get traffic and backlinks. But many people do it in the wrong way.

What do most people do when it comes to blog commenting? They find many blogs, most of the blogs are very low quality. Then they leave hundreds of one or two lines low quality comments on many blogs. Or they hire someone or use software to do the work. But this strategy is completely wrong.

Instead of focusing on quantity, you should focus on the quality of your comments. Because the purpose of blog commenting is not to get hundreds or thousands of spammy low quality useless backlinks(Google won’t see those backlinks as valuable). And don’t expect you can get some traffic from those comments either.

The real purpose of blog commenting should be building good relationships with authority bloggers within your niche. Then try to get high quality backlinks from them. And this is the right way to do it.

So how to do blog commenting in the right way?

    1. Find some authority blogs in your niche

    2. Leave some really valuable comments on those blogs on a regular basis. The comment could be an additional point, or recommend some great related resources and so on. Only in this way can you get some traffic to your own blog and build a good relationship with the blogger. Why? Because almost everybody else leaves low quality one line comments. So you stand out of the crowd by leaving a really valuable comment. Guess who will get the most attention from the readers? Of course you. And the readers will be interested in clicking your link and visit your blog to know more about you because your comment is so valuable.

    3. When the time is right, you can send an email to the blogger to ask if there is any chance for you to guest post on the blog. In this case, the blogger probably will give you that chance. Because you’ve already built great relationship with the blogger by contributing so many valuable contents on the blog on a regular basis.

So in this way, you can get some high quality guest post backlinks within articles from some authority blogs in your niche. Isn’t this so much better than just getting some useless blog comments backlinks from many low quality blogs? And you can also get much more traffic from your comments.

You should add comments to blogs based on different CMS systems. If you only add comments to blogs based on WordPress, it can badly harm your website.

Blog commenting isn't really a link building strategy, but more of a way to network with other bloggers in your niche.

An issue I have found with this (from my experience as a blog owner), bloggers can make comment link "nofollow" links, which means the links dont really count as a backlink. I have found there are more efficient ways to build backlinks than blog commenting, im not saying dont do it, but if you were planning on spending 30 minutes a day on backlinking, perhaps spend only 5 minutes on blog commenting.
