How to do a VERY long-shot domain snapping?

    Hi everyone,

    Here is the situation:

A company goes out of business. Their domain name was paid in advance for until mid-2008. I know that they are not going to renew and I have a reason to want the name. Is there a service out there that can be setup to grab an expiring name two years in advance?

Thanks for your links and suggestions!

    D~

You can always (well usually) backorder a domain so when it does drop you have a higher chance of picking it up. Did that answer your question?

You can backorder it through any number of different services. I would personally call them and give them a price you will buy it for.

Without meaning to make this a shameless plug, I wrote a detailed article on
the subject in my blog if you're interested in checking it out.

Shorthand answer is to check with the registrar of the domain name in query
here and find out what their policies are regarding expired names. If the name
is eventually deleted and switched into redemption period, then signing up for
as many backorder services as you can afford is your best chance.

    Thanks for your replies, guys.

I guess, I am still wondering what will be involved considering that the name expires in almost two years from now. This was actually my question. I know backorder services exist but would they keep my order active for two years?

yes, most likely they will... but i don't understand why you would want the domain that badly.
I mean, if it is so great everyone else is going to want it which means it will be very expensive.
Plus two years, the industry might be done
