How to direct my domain to Hostgator

    Hi guys,

I just registered my first domain (top-spot.info)

and have purchased a hosting plan at hostgator, it seems my domain is already added to hostgator. I've installed wordpress and created a subdomain, everything seems dandy. But when I go to www.top-spot.info it just goes to the free godaddy parking service and says my domain is parked.

Can someone please tell me how to direct it to hostgator. I'm fairly new at this as you can tell, thanks for any help guys. :)

Login to your godaddy account and change the nameserver to that of hostgator

thanks for the response, but this being my first domain, I actually don't even know how to do that. Would you be able to tell me step by step how to do that after logging into my godaddy account?

Actually I think I got it, I simply replaced the two nameservers previously stated to those supplied in the email I received from Hostgator. Now I'm waiting for processing to be completed (after clicking OK).

Actually, I think I may have screwed some stuff up, now I'm kind of worried. I changed the two original nameservers GoDaddy supplied by clicking the Nameservers option in godaddy control panel. Now my hostgator site doesnt even work, I can't log in using the temporary address they emailed me and I can't log into using my domain :( . I read somewhere that I'm supposed to add a Host, where it says "Host Summary" at the bottom, so I tried doing this, but I'm confused because I have two nameservers supplied and only one ip.

EDIT: So I now realize I don't need to do anything with the Host Summary, I only need to change the two parked domain nameservers to those taht were provided to my by hostgator. I have now done that and am waiting for propagation to complete. The only thing that really worries me, is for some reason neither my temporary cPanel (ip/cpanel) or my temporary site work. this is wierd because just before this happened I had no problems modifying things on my temporary cPanel... What is going on???

yes I am still able to log into the cpanel using that IP address. So I can log in both via the ip address provided, or via my domain/cpanel.

if I visit my domain (top-spot.info) it will show the directory list, and when i navigate to the wordpress folder in the cruises subdomain it just goes to the 404 page from hostgator. But if I go to see my site on the ip hostgator provided I am still taken to the directory list, but this time when i navigate to the wordpress folder in the cruises subdomain it actually goes to the wordpress blog. So thats the first problem i need to solve.

The second is that I don't want to be taken to the directory list in the first place, I want to be taken directly to the blog.

    Thanks for the help btw.

I think you didn't install wordpress correctly. Did you use the Fantastico WP install in your HostGator Cpanel?

OK I just found the problem, it was the fact that I didn't use the fantastico installation, I tried it and now everything works great. Thanks a lot guys.
