How do we know that the directory we are going to submit is good or bad as Google search engine concern. Because gaining back links sometime cause reverse effects on our search engine rank.
three you should always see during directory submission first is site's load time should quick, no follow attribute should not be stick on the outbound links and last one is that check sites' other pages or index pages are cached or not.
Also, check how many backlinks the directory itself has got & whether there is are adult, gambling and/or drugs related sections (i'd steer clear of those).
How important is relevence for the links? IE a back link from a motoring website to a fitness website.....etc....... Does that have any effect? Dave
Check the index, PR etc of the directory, and also whether it has too many outbound links on one page. If it links to adult, gambling, violent etc sites, it is definitely not a good one.
Here are a few things I would look for to determine a directory's quality. 1. Use SEOmoz's Trifecta tool (previously called PageStrength) to determine the directories overall prominence or "authority". This tool looks at the number of backlinks the site has as well as other characteristics that determine if the site is an "authority" website. Here is a list of directories compiled that have very high pagestrength. 2. Avoid directories that are "grey barred" in the google PR toolbar. 3. Avoid directories that link to porn, gambling, and other questionable websites. 4. Avoid directories that have dropped domains. A good sign it is a dropped domain is if it has a weird URL such as "portz55.com" or a url that was clearly designed for another purpose. Webmasters often convert dropped domains to directories to trick people into paying a premium for a higher PR that will likely fall after a new PR update. 5. Look for directories that have stringent listing requirements and consider the quality of website content before admitting new websites. 6. Look for directories that are well organized, have unique content or accept quality articles, and have less then 50 outbound links per page. 7. Look for directories that are directly related to your niche or specialty. For instance, if your selling widgets try directories that have only widget links. 8. Look for directories that have high traffic, not just high PR. For more tips to picking a quality web directory click here.
