I have a couple of websites with good traffic and page rank and received couple of mails for banner ads. I am confused as to how to charge them for banner rates. Can an experienced guy give me some suggestions as to how the pricing works for banner ads. I want to try other things other then adsense and am really curious to find out how banner ad pricing works. NikD...
I would check your competitions prices and try to adjust your prices as well - that might do the trick.
Banner ads are usually not very effective. Banner ads are small and are easily ignored. But......if they are large with splashes of color, then it costs more, but is harder to ignore and produces the desired result. Rates are determined by the size and type of ad. As Kate-Oranum said, simply check the competition and ask about their rates.
I would use text ads that blend into your website color and text, I find that more effective than using banner ads. Banner ads take longer to load and lags the whole page. It is not the most effective thing for cpc.
So - lets say if I were to advertise my affiliate program - you wouldnt reccomend that I buy banner space?
A click usually costs about 5-10 cents to the advertiser, which you would send to the content provider. Behavior is tracked through use of a "click tag". I guess one just has to calculate the costs versus the dividend. It's a personal decision, one could always try it out for a duration and gage accordingly.
To start, if you get 50k+ views/month I recommend using buysellads.com as they are very good at handling everything. The only thing you really need to do is to determine the rates. I recommend charging simple flat fees of around $.75/1k impressions your site gets 50k impressions in that space, than make a flat rate of $40. That being said check websites in your niche and topic and see what they charge to help you. Best of luck!
