how to determine a directory submission category

I'm sorry for sounding retarded, but I am a noob and have a legitimate question:

How can I determine what category I should put for my directory submissions? Is there a list somewhere? should I research on what ones are most searched?

If someone could give me a little tutorial on how to structure my submissions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

What's your site about? If its about how to maintain a webmaster forum..it'd go under webmaster tutorials, internet, etc...choose the most relevant category for your site.

You really need to use common sense, that is the only answer that can be given. Each directory will require some level of thought as the catagories vary greatly.

Just look around some of the directory sites and look at what category your site would fit in....go to the solicitation and annoucement forum and take a look at the structure of most directories..they're pretty much the same

If the directory has a searching feature,
search for your primary keyword. Examine
the results and see what's their category.

If the directory hasn't a searching feature,
    try below in Google,
    site:www.dmoz.org real estate

Replace the directory address and keyword with
your ones. If the keyword is a phrase, also try including
    it in double quoets.

Certainly your site will fall into some category you have to choose the relevant.
