    Hi
I'm always a bit skeptical, when I find a new webshop.
What is a good method to determin wether or not the webshop can be trusted?

I always check these before I use a online shop:
    - If they have a SSL Certificate.
    - If they have been around for long (Domain whois).
    - If they have any reviews on Google (shopname+review).

SSL certificate can be picked up and purchased by anyone for less than the price of a hamburger these days so don't just think that because a site has SSL that it is to be trusted.

Check their social pages, facebook, twitter etc, see if they have been around a while and answered to previous support and resolved things or if there are pissed off people on them then stay well clear.

If they dont have social pages, or even a user support forum then be a bit more wary. Check their terms pages, about us pages etc etc and see if its all in line and legit.

But yes checking for reviews and testimonials online by searching them like "sitename scam" or similar to see what you can find first.

If you cant find anything bad, but still are concerned, try writing to them a couple times and see what their responses are like. Are their any spelling/grammar mistakes. Are they polite, professional and courteous.

Ask around on forums about them first before using and wait before going ahead to see what people say.

Well yeah, that's a given. But OP's question was on methods to determine how a site is to be trusted or not and you gave a response that as long as it has SSL then it should be which far from the case.

Also when you run Whois search, check the registrant contact info along with the domain age. Under the condition that the domain is old, real owner's info instead of privacy protection gives it even more credibility.

If a site doesn’t support “SSL” or Secure Checkout, don’t buy from them. Otherwise you may be opening yourself up to even more detrimental credit fraud down the road.

Yes, this is obvious. The main point of the discussion is identifying possible risks at the sites which do have SSL, I suppose.
