How to detect fake PR?

I am in the process of buying some links. What I have ran into is some sites that seem to have a fake page rank. I use the seoquake for mozilla and It shows the site as having a pr6 (as stated by the seller) however it only shows just over 100 links and none of which seem high quality. So it seems fake.

In other cases their will be sites with a 3-4pr and low links and they seem qquestionable. Is their anyway to verify a sites pr?

Here's what I know from searching:

    Fake Pagerank

    What is a fake Pagerank?

In Google’s Toolbar bar you will see a Pagerank that doesn’t reflect the current strength of that website. The Pagerank will be much higher and the site administrator will use this to ask for link exchange or to do advertising. How can the toolbar display an unrealistic value? Well, its simple, you just make the toolbar believe that there’s a much powerful site instead of a weak one by redirecting.

How to check is the site has a fake pagerank?

You can check that using this command: cache: fakepageranksite.com
If the results are: “This is Google’s cache of fakepageranksite.com as retrieved on 4 Jul 2010 12:30:51 GMT”. Then the website’s pagerank is valid.

If the results are: “This is Google’s cache of yahoo.com as retrieved on 2 Jul 2010 18:21:56 GMT”. Then the website’s pagerank is false.

In other words, Google crawls fakepageranksite.com and sees that it’s redirected on yahoo.com so Google grants yahoo’s pagerank . Google simply considers that fakepageranksite.com is just a simple redirection. He thinks that the site have no content, if he did know things would be different. There are of course tools that can detect a face Pagerank, although the above method is the best way to find out the truth.

Where do you find sites with face pagerank? In places were links are bought and sold. Like special forums for this kind of trading, like link exchanges and partnerships offers. Always be careful not to be scammed.

The easiest way is to enter the url of the page/domain into Google, and then click on the "Cached" version. Check what the PR is on the cached version and compare. Even LOW quality sites can get high PR for some weeks by getting .edu back links. Of course, Google does their PR update every few months and these sites always fall down again, so make sure you check the quality of the site where you are getting a link from is good (content, pages, update frequency). Outbound links is also an indicator...

It's better to go for a link on a PR3 with only 5 outgoing links, compared to a PR6 with 40 outgoing links. Quality :)

Have you used Google PR Checker. Truth is there are two kinds of PR. The Toolbar PR and the Real PR.

Toolbar PR is what we commonly see while the Real PR is what Google uses to rank our sites.

Most of High PR domains have good SERP when I optimized them. You can say High PR = High Income if you sell the link of your domain :)

To catch a fake PageRank is quite simple and easy. Below are the steps:

    • 1. Go to Google.com and enter info: www dot DomainName dot com.
    • 2. Check the same domain, this time without the www info[IMG]omainName dot com. If a different name appears on the search results, this means that the domain has been redirected and has a fake PR. With the above information, it will now be easier for you to understand what a website's PR is all about and how to check fake PageRank. It is a very useful tool in helping you decide on which websites or domains to buy.

To detect Fake Pagerank, simply type in the webpage, such as www.SiteWithFakePR.com into Google’s search and look at the cache. The cache will not be that of the site with Fake PR, it will be the site with the actual PR.
