How to design a good look english site?

    English is not my native language,I used to design other language sites.Now,I decide to design a english site! But,I can't find a good look english site to imitate( no only imitating) .Maybe,there are some differences in taste !
    My site is about electronics!this kind of site should be looked kindly,isn't it?
    tell me some things about these,It is appreciate to show me some sites!

    What exactly is the function of the site? i kno its about electronics but can you be more specific (eg. directory, forum, normal site with few webpages?)
