Are you sure that they will ever be purged? I've got very very old campaigns (deactivated in 2003) in my google account that are marked as deleted. Until now I would have suspected that - in good harddisks-are-cheap-fashion - google never deletes any data from adwords.
I beleive google never deletes any campaigns permanently. But, you have the option to select which campaigns to show on the main page so why should bother about deleted ones
they do not delete it on purpose it seems so as to use it to factor in the campaign age for better rankings.
Well, maybe. I don't know how other advertisers see this, but I don't care much about the ranking of my deleted campaigns
yes, not to rank for the deleted campaign's advertiser but for other advertisers who are advertising for the same keywords coz if google is keeping it, it's very likely that they are factoring it too
Ah, ok, now I understand. Of course they could keep the statistics and still let me delete the campaigns from my account, but this might just be the google way of telling you that they still have and use your data.
another point to note is that a deleted campaign gives some sort of indication to google that the deleted campaign didn't work for the advertiser so it can give something for their team to analyse on the conversion factors - what exactly, of course, only gooole would know
Or maybe its a case of - If you keep looking at it everytime you log in, you may just reactive it one day... Only a handful of people reactiving one of their deleted campains would pay for the small cost of keeping it in ther DB and harddrives. Remember, most of their business profits come from PPC. They arent going to give you an easy way to not spend money with them.
Go ahead and delete the campaign. Google will keep that in its log. How does it is going to affect you. If google people are using your data to improve their Adwords, it is beneficial for all of us. You can just use in the GUI option " Show only active campaign" etc. Deletion is never meant to be erased for life. Even in your Desktop, it goes into the Recycle Bin. But you just do not mind that. If you have run multiple accounts, You have to delete all campaigns. After that the active account will be normal right?
