There are many points to consider to reduce the bounce rate on your web-pages. You need to think as a customer when designing a product. Only then you can be able to reduce the readers/visitors who landed on your pages to stop leaving your site. Before going to get the feedback to your site, you should be first able to design the product user friendly. Some very important points to consider are: Site Layout and Design, Relevant Content and Page loading time. These are the basic things you need to first ensure they all are good. And then as readers/users always look for something more than usual, try to attract their attention by placing free downloads, offering subscriptions and some good relevant videos, images etc. After you make all these available on your site, place Surveys and Polls to know about your readers/visitors opinion.

Thus you can reduce decrease Bounce Rate.

does your content match your keywords?

for example if you have a dog website and your keywords are cars, cats and elephant, you can expect a high bounce rate

Edit/change content of your web page and make it more attractive and user-friendly for your visitors so that they can stay for a longer time. I agree with @australiaseo though.

Most SEOs don't consider on-page factors as an important factor of SEO but in my personal opinion and experience, I can say it again and again that it is not hard to bring visitors/traffic to your website, but the hardest part is to maintain the traffic and visitors so that they can pay you frequent visits regularly.

    Hope this helps.

Aside from focusing on the content, you should make your navigation user-friendly so that visitors may easily find what they want to look for.

Well my bounce rate is down to 52.3% with 3.86 pages per visit, but I am working seo and web design everyday to improve my site. Also work hard with the keywords, as you may rank #1 today, put be on the 2nd page tomorrow. So what it boils down to is if you want more visitors and want them to stay for awhile you must work at it everyday and use these forums to find out what other webmasters are doing.

    Hello smithseo,

The reason you have a high bounce rate is a problem of unmet, or false, expectations. In other words, something caused your visitors to click on a link that brought them to your website. Maybe it was a PPC ad, maybe it was a search result, or maybe it was a link from another website.

When they get to your website, they don’t immediately see what they expected and click away. Or, once they get there, they are turned off because the site doesn’t have credibility. Thankfully there are many things you can do to help lower your bounce rate. I highly recommend you read this list of 10 Tips To Lower Your Bounce Rate here http://bit.ly/9WM0YT

Let me know what you think.

    Kindly,
    Shelby

Internal Linking Helped my site. If the user doesn't see exactly what they want when they land its important for them to have choices quickly to get where they need to.

65% is quite high, it means that you are not engaging your audience - try adding more quality content and put links to your other blog post in each blog (breadcrumbs style) to decrease the bounce rate...
