Can anyone explain why google puts Supplemental Result before normally cached pages? this basically hits the ranking of all normal pages...

and even if there are newly cached pages, they are still put after the supplemental ones...

any idea about what we can do?

If your pages are not linked to any other pages in the site, Google might put them in Supplemental Results. So make sure you have proper linking navigation structure, that will link all the pages. I've had the same problem. Although the meta tags were different, they were in supplemental becuase they were not linked to site. They were like orphand pages.

    I hope this helps.:)

IMO, pages move to supplmental index due to loss of trust/value from SE viewpoint.

This can happen due to a variety of reasons.

    Some are,

1] Page titles and other meta tags are pretty similar
2] Too many outgoing links to external domains from page ( say, more than 35)
3] Page has low content volume ( one/two lines on text . mostly below 50 words)
4] Page has no backlinks from external domains
5] Site navigation is defective - that is, search engine crawlers cant get to the internal pages easily. ( using javascript code for navigation is know to restrict searche engine bots from following a link properly)
These are some of the reason for getting a page in Supplemental index.

    Solution:
1] Keep outgoing links to external domain to a minimum ( say < 20 links)
2] Change titles and other meta tags as much as possible so that no two pages are alike in these departments
3] Try to get at least one link from external domain to the page
4] Provide a strait 1 - 2 click navigation for getting to the page , that is put the page 1 - 2 click deep from the home page with a crawlable path.

What if some of your backlinks are listed as supplemental results?

It is a place where duplicate content are placed. It is one of the nightmares of SEO but it can be solved by rewording your content and submitting your sites to high traffic sites.

These are all good suggestions, but - did anyone successfully get rid of their supplemental results listed? Right now they are listed in front of other normal results of the site... very annoying...

One of the other reasons why google drops you in the supplemental is because you're not trusted.

For example, I have one website that I work on that's a page rank 6. And I have about 100 pages that have almost ALL the same content on them (slightly diff meta and title) but google loves them anyway. I get about 1/3 of my traffic from them even.

On the other hand, I have a site that has a page rank of 3, and i had to completely reword every page so that they would be more dissimilar because they were all in the supplemental.

Really thats surprising most website owners consider the supplimental results a black hole from which little or no traffic arrives.

If you got tons of the supplemental in last week, then I guess its nothing wrong on your side.

Dozens of people having sites with unique content, and some of them with authority sites that had holded top SERPS for years have completelly dissappeared form Google and went to Supplemental

Its Allmighty Google messing something again, and you cant do much, it seems.
Maybe sit and cry only :)
