i agree, it was just my point of view also if some users with itraders above 20 aren't trustworthy than it is a major issue
This thread results in a happy ending. Essentially there was a technical problem that caused the issue which is why I took my time before saying anything to anyone and glad I did. This designer made good and as soon as we cleared the air and understood each other, files were sent lightning quick. Glad that everything turned out perfectly. This has still been an interesting thread as to how to deal with others who are trouble, like my friend who nailed me with a black mark after taking my money and not even doing the job he was hired to do. Having some place for people to leave a paper trail might help us make decisions on a going forward basis.
this still can be an issue with others, and I am glad the problem has been resolved, but maybe we can have volunteers become the middle men and trade both items. They would first recieve the design from the artist then ask the client to send the money, and upon completion send the files. I'd volunteer =]
I had the opposite experienced.I made the job done, sent the files and never been paid until now And what make me a little bit angry is that person using my logo on his / her forum.
I've noticed that recently there has been an influx of people who like posting contests with high prize payouts, looking over all the entries, then create the design that they need based on the entries. Kind of like free inspiration. I'm assuming there's no penalty for this on Digital Point?
If that is indeed the case, it's abominable. This is a contests forum, not a general chat or free inspiration forum. I hate contests that no-one wins, it's great when someone gets paid even if that's not you. But where everybody wastes valuable time and nobody wins If you have no intention of selecting a winner, don't start a contest. If you have sky high expectations and demand awesome superb entries don't start a contest.
well yea and we all hate that it's kind of annoying, but once your good at designing then you really should'nt depend a whole lot on competitions and maybe should start making connections and working elsewhere. I forgot the name of what they call these contests but sometimes theyre a bit annoying. Best thing to do is give a red rep and let everyone know what they do i guess
red rep !=(not equal) red itrader Yesterday i wrote a blog post about how can designers avoid being scammed i mostly follow it and i never got scammed so far
Okay here is my story. I joined a contest held by Treyhorne. And this is the thread : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=746247 I submitted my entry via PM. He/She said that i won the contest and asked me sent the files and then He/She would pay the rewards. And what did i get ? Nothing ! Not even a feedback. After a few days later,He/She made another contest again : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=746247 I asked that person on that thread to pay my rewards.He/She just said "Send me a Pm then mate." But He/She never did. From that point,if i want to join a contest i have to be more careful.Look Their posts, threads,iTraders and other issues on General Chat. And of cource i MUST recieve the payment first before i send the files. What's your stories guys ?
I'm lucky enough to have had smooth contests and clients transactions for the whole year i've been here on DP but I know a lot of people do have to wait a long time for prizes, due to contest holders starting contests and then being unable to honour the payments or just disappearing and leaving the contest unconcluded or the winner being left without payment. It's an all-too-familiar story on these forums but for the time being it doesn't look like much is going to be done about it. Saying that, the majority of contest holders are excellent and wouldn't dream of ripping people off so I urge people not to be put off by these 'horror stories' because more often than not, the contest is a legitimate one.
Thanks xara for the information. Guess it serves to get the payment first, then send the files In any case here is the "free inspiration" contests I was talking about. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=762100 Contest holder set the prize as $100, got three pages of entries, then left without giving any feedback (except for mine, sadly, so I had to make revisions) and he miraculously got a design that looks incredibly similar to mine on his page a day after he made the thread. I asked if he had any update on the contest and he never replied. Even if the submission was a PM he should have announced the winner on his thread.
The Examples by xfactorlogo and xaralee seem to support the "Don't deal with low-itrader guys theory. Maybe a dp escrow service that collects payment from contest holders before he is allowed to start the contest is in order.
