How to deal with categories & tags after all these updates?

Hello everyone, I am getting some HTML improvement warnings recently in Google Webmasters. Previously, I was using {index, follow} robot for categories using yoast seo plugin. Tags were set {noindex, nofollow}. I still do not who hit me Panda or Penguin as I have not warned for back linking or over optimization. Anyway, after being hit by any of these updates in May I have allowed categories, tags, author archives to {index, follow}. Now, I am getting plenty of duplicate title warning in Google Webmasters. What to do? I just changed everything to {noindex, follow}. Is this the solution? Thanks for responding.
    Kind regards

The NoIndex and NoFollow has been the only solution I've found for this. You may want to look at which sites are linking to you and with what anchor text and look into getting some new relevant backlinks.

Okay, {nofollow and noindex}, you view. I do not focus too much on back link building apart from social bookmarking. The sites that I used intentionally for link building contain different anchors as I can see from Google Webmasters.
