How to deal with another site stealing our articles?

We have been writing and submitting a lot of original articles for SEO. Recently we found there is another company in our niche that has been taking our articles and rewriting one or two sentences here and there and publishing on different article sites from where we submitted. Obviously we would like to stop this. Any suggestions?

You could always report the site to google!

If it is blatant plagiarizing, I would first contact them and ask them to stop or I will take legal action. If they call your bluff you could be in for a long and potential expensive legal battle to protect your intellectual property.

But maybe you will be somewhat pleased to know that Google will treat their submissions as duplicate content and thus assigning it little relevance. Since your article was published first it will get all the credit. However it is frustrating to be ripped off.

Could you link up an example?

Here's one of the best articles on the subject of content theft, from Lorelle on Wordpress.

    I hate those thieves!

    Good luck.

    Send a "friendly" warning message.
    Give them two options
    1) Links / refer your site (yey free backlinks :D)
    2) Take down all articles

If they ignore, report to google etc.

Contact Google firstly, and report against the same, if Google find your report right then, your content will get all the credit. And that site might got banned.

plagiarism isn't the same as copyright theft.

Copyright theft is punishable by law in most countries.

Plagiarism isn't even a legal term in most countries.

You can file a DMCA complaint with Google. They'll review the other site and deindex the other content.

    Hi,
In my opinion, The best way to protect your copyrighted work is that you register your copies at:

    http://www.copyright.gov/forms/

then take an attorney specialized in copyright and trademark services in case you have to go to court. In most cases, DMCA will be enough to remove the infringement copyrighted work. The first thing to do is contacting the SE, the registrars and the hosting company.
I think it will help you, best of luck.

But what would happen if website A created the content, but didn't have their site indexed by google and then website B stole it and then got their website indexed. Would google think that site A was copying the content? It would be a difficult thing to prove. I was wondering about this.
