How do such names like .tk and .co.nr get their domain names? how do they start a business like that, and can it be done easily or does it cost alot of $.

    Thanks alot, pr0xy.

You will need to run it through ICANN http://www.icann.org/ . It is really a long process of voting and legal processes.

    those are cctlds, i think.
At least .tk is the domain for a country, Tokelau. I think co.nr is from a country, too.
You can't simply get your own TLD.

Yup, there is no chance of getting any country TLD, at least not by a private individual.

Well, if you're willing to shell out at least $50k and have figured out a way to
recoup that investment, then yeah I know some people who can help. But no,
you can't simply create a domain name extension and link it up with the rest
    of the Internet.

Hey, i know of a guy with his own domain name extenstion, he owns a private island some were. And so its classed as an island. also... you could just buy a ll.ll you know
    (letter letter.letter letter)

for example re.it or wa.uk obviusly these arnt going to be availabe but i have seen a few availabe every now and again. Then you can give subdomains on them for example proxy.wa.uk and.... you could make some pretty nice bucks out of them too, as you could just sell subdomains for $5 each for 2years, just post a massive massive list of them in the DP domain market place like porn., casino. ect..... Whatever you can think of, or peaples names like jason. blah blah, the list could go on forever and if they were $5 or something im sure a few peaple would buy.

nobody would buy a subdomain as there is no guarantee that you wont take it away. When I buy a TLD with GoDaddy I enter a agreement with GoDaddy adn then can't just take name away.

Also you can get your own extention butits costly and time consuming. If you really wanted one and had a legitimate purpose for it, it could be arranged.
