    Is there a tool (hopefully free) that will generate this for me?

    Hi David,

    You can generate an XML sitemap for free at http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ , although I dont believe so much in their quality, but they are the best free ones out there.

    ^yeah the quality sucks but you can generate alot of the code and then go back and correct it. I run mine and then strip the code down to the basic format. saves some time but with out correcting it I just get error messages.

    You can create a sitemap.xml in a second and submit that on google or other webmaster sites. It really works. You can also check the broken links and all. xml-sitemaps really works well.

    i created many sitemaps with them, quality is good but their free sitemap system only scan and create 500 URLs

    Another site map generator tool is http://www.thesitemapper.com

    I is able to create maps automatically and ftp the results to the server.

    It can also check for site for Google Analytic code.

    I think http://www.xml-sitemaps.com is the easiest and simplest website to make sitemap.xml. I have made xml file many times and got very easy and nice. you can also use this website. You can also make ror file with the help of it.

    This is the generator we suggest:

    It's a browser run java program that scans your entire site. Doing so will also check for broken links, images and the like.

    There's no restriction or limit on the number of pages that is indexes.

    The problem is, those sites are limited on the number of urls each one supports. xml-sitemaps is limited to something like 500 urls. That creates an issue if you have thousands of pages - like a forum or a busy blog.

    You should really get a sitemap generator that works with your content management system. That way the sitemap can have up to 50,000 urls in it and its generated everynight. You want something that is automatic and flexible. And a lot of the sitemap generators ping the search engines when a new sitemap has been made. The sitemap generator I have on my blog, it updates everytime I post a new article or make changes to an old article.
