    I have this small image : pattern.gif

Look at the blue sprinkled background at the back. I want to create a similar background in illustrator.
How to proceed? I tried googling but couldn't find anything similar.

    Thanks for help.

Personally, I would've made the first background completely gradinet-blue-white, then I'd fill a bit of white on the edges and then apply noise.

This is quite an easy way, not exactly as good, but try it out, see what you think.

Make a box, fill it with a gradient, then goto effect > brush strokes > spatter

See what you think. Also if you had a good splatter brush stroke (try google, I dont think there is a good illustrator default one) then paint around the edges of the gradient box (make sure you expand the path), then expand the stroke, then subtract the stroke from the box with the pathfinder tool.

The way I suggested needs extra-focus and knowing amounts and such.
Try what jeremyhowell said, it's easier.

looks pretty good. try rounding the edges a bit more, and stepping the border with larger spattering on the outside, and slightly smaller as it gets in, and you could improve the look a bit, but great job.
