The majority of how "SEO Friendly" your site is going to be will be determined by the content. If you have this amazing design and crap content, Google's really not going to care and people aren't going to visit your site more than once.

    1) Content
I know... everyone has heard this a million times over but the content of the website is King! Don't hire some writer who specializes in making "SEO" articles. There's probably an entire book worth of information that could go into making quality content and how to target your readers effectively but let's move on.

    2) Image Size
The majority of client's websites I take over are huge in size. The main cause? They upload gigantic images not knowing any better. The last website I took over for had images that were 4000 x 3000 and were in a TIF format. Why... why does ANYONE need images like that? I assure you, no one needs images that are 10 to 30 mb large. Usually, I can get these images down to 50 to 150kb without compromising quality. If you have images that are obnoxious in resolution, use a program like Irfanview to mass resize them. You can do this with Irfanview Thumbnails.

If you're saving images via Photoshop or another photo editing program, remove the Meta Data and try to refrain from "Maximum" quality. I've never once had an issue with using High Quality or seen any pixelation.

If you're on Wordpress, get a plugin called Smush.IT. It automatically runs images through that and removes unnecessary data from them.

    3) Minimize Coding
There's quite a few Wordpress Plugins that do this (if you're using Wordpress). W3 Total Cache will do it. It reduces the overall size of your core files and makes them load faster.

    4) Make Sure Your Site Is Responsive
A lot of new players in the web development don't really understand this. Just because you're building a site and testing it out in 1920 x 1080, doesn't mean your site's going to look good in lower resolutions. I use a window resizer to check out other resolutions and to make sure everything looks good. If it's jacked up in other resolutions outside of your own, you're going to get a high bounce rate. You'll have to look up media queries to tackle those.

If I had hours, I'd explain every little detail but really it all boils down to making sure your site loads quick, looks good and has quality content.

Want to know if your site's loading quick or get suggestions? Here's a couple of links to help you out:
https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ (Shows you both Mobile and Desktop)
    http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/

If you have something that's taking up 50% of your site's overall space, you'll find it rather quickly.
