If you are just starting out its a good idea to start off with one of the free blogging platforms such as blogger, weebly or squidoo. All of these sites have a hand holding process to get you started with getting your first site up and running. Once you are feeling comfortable you can branch out with your own site or blog using wordpress or joomla. Just do a search in google there is lots of tutorial material available.

I am giving only a summary of Website Creation. For detailed information visit http://www.webmastercourse.com.
Firstly take Domain Name and Server space. Second step is Designs web Pages. http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp to visit this site and use the tutorials for designing HTML pages with the help of a Web Designing Software(Adobe Dreamweaver). And finally upload the designs files to the server with the help of a FTP Software(Global Scape Cute FTP, Filezilla etc).

I'd definately go with wordpress. Once you're used to the system on wordpress.com you can move it all over to your own hosting (using wordpress.org) and do basically whatever you want with it. Note that wordpress doesn't have to be a blog, its a pretty good CMS with tons of plugins.

Wordpress FTW! Ever since i've used WordPress, i've never looked back.
It's the best blog/CMS Platform. It's just like FireFox. Has loads of free plugins.

    Hi,
check this site www.createfirstwebsite.com, you will find free ebook with a lot of screenshots and videos about how to create a website. Everything is explained step by step and it is written in simple non-technical talk especially for beginners and newcomers. I was really impressed by the explanation.
