How to create a clone of freeconferencecall.com?

I'm interested in finding out if anyone knows how difficult it would be to set up a service like freeconferencecall.com? I want to do something that isn't really competitive with freeconferencecall.com but operates in much the same fashion. I'd like to be able to have people sign up and receive an access code and phone number to call in on. And I'd like the call to be recorded and available for future playback.

I'm wondering if anyone has a sense of how this could be accomplished? Maybe using something like Asterisk (the open source PBX software). And also any sense of what it might cost...thousands of dollars...tens of thousands of dollars...more?

This would be pretty easy to do with Asterisk..

Asterisk can act really well as a Media Server. So Handling conference calls is easy. Though you have to plan to accomodate for the bandwidth that you'd use because that's a lot of RTP data that would be sent to your server.

The next thing to think about is how to expand when you get 500 requests for Conference calls.
