How to correctly choose long-tailed keywords?

    How to correctly choose long-tailed keywords?
    :) I read a good article here in DP about long-tailed keywords... but I am not sure how to correctly choose them :p

    Anything longer than 2 keywords. Try to find ones that have less sites listed and good traffic. Try mutiple ways of wording terms and mutiple keyword tools

    Regarding the use of long-tailed keywords, how do you go about achieving backlinks with long-tailed, or am i getting confused and this would be more to do with on page optimisation?
