I believe you get better SERP results when your targetted keywords are relevant to your site content.

You can use keyword suggestions tools to find keywords relevant to a main keyword you have choosen. Those keywords tools will also tell you the amount of search for a certain keyword.

Usually, the more a keyword is search, the more it will have competition. The key is to find a keyword with a good amount of search, and few result in search engones, which means less competition.

Its looks like you have quite a few members on your forum, why not email them all and ask them what keywords they would use. Info from real people can sometimes provide better research than the automated tools or at the very least confirm the results.

http://www.google.com/Top/Games/Gambling/Poker/ if possible get yourself a listing in this category.

I suggest you list all the words on your forum right now, that you think are important, then use this Keyword Brainstormer to find other related keywords. You will be able to analyze the words further using tools like the advanced keyword research tool that will show you how popular the keyword is, its competition statistics etc.

Try to find keywords with a lot of search count and low competition in ideal phrase or string depending on your keyword. Generally keywords with less than 1000 competing sites will be easier to optimize for.

Try to target keyword that has high search volume but not too competitive.
