How to copy files from my server with the file permissions

I am moving from shared hosting with GoDaddy to VPS on WiredTree and need to transfer my files from Godaddy.

Tried Contacting GoDaddy to get all the files tar up the files with this command

tar czfp DIRECTORYOFFILES yourfiles.tar.gz so I can upload the
files with the permission on to the new site and Godaddy said they couldnt do it.

Is there any other alternative to get this done ?

 

Don't think its possible to transfer them over to have the permissions remain intact.
