How to convince my boss to give me more money for linkbuilding

So, I have an estimation on how many links we can expect from a web awards campaign, but how do I convert that in to traffic because that's the only thing my manager will look at. How much traffic -> how many leads - > how much money.

It would be hard to say..but if you can give him a guarantee of ranking then he would give you more budget. However, for any guarantee is always have something to exchange. Can you give him?

Otherwise if you are an SEO expert and he acknowledge your expertize then he would have no asked question about your promote ways and activity since he has faith in you. You may need to show him some of the site promoted by you and succeed in ranking for medium degree competitive keywords.

    Dear boss!

I wouldn't recommend sparing more than <put in your current budget> per month for link building. It really can increase the volume of visits to our site which will possibly have the following negative consequences:
    1. Our site will experience a higher load due to increased amount of visits.
    2. The technical support team may experience difficulties answering the questions from the new clients we may have.
    3. Obviously, we will spent more money for that, even upto <put in your desirable budget> per month! That is absolutely ridiculous! We simply can't afford having so many clients at this time!

    Sincerely,
    your honest employee.

    :)

You boss is right to be worried about money, so thats how you sell it in. Remember the links are a traffic and an SO benefit - so whilst you may not necessarily benefit from traffic from the links per se, you will certainly benefit from an increase in search rankings as these links are likely to be authoritative. A jump in the top 10 by one position upward is likely to result in a 5% increase in traffic for a given search term. Form there using your analytics program you can work out how many leads etc.
