Should we consider Adsense our primary source of income (that is, you build quality content pages to generate revenue with adsense), or should we consider Adsense as a secondary source: for instance, you have an e-commerce website or a services website and in case your customers are not interested in your products, part of them may click the ads so you won't lose the whole potential traffic. What do you think about it? Thank you in advance
It should remain far secondary until you earn really big bucks on routine. Its not easy to earn big bucks from adsense. It require hard work, new ideas and most importantly your sweat.
In my opinion you should take it as a secondary source, due to the volidity of adsense you never know what could happen. People might over click or something stupid like that and then your account is banned and you primary source of income is gone right there. Use adsense as a secondary source of income (but still place a lot of effort into your adsense)
I see it as a primary source right now, working on it untill i reach $200 a day, then possibly move onto bigger and better things
Personally, I think you should have a job that is your primary source of income, even if adsense is greater, which is the case with some members on DP. Also, you shoulkd diversify your online income ffrom as many sources possible i.e. adssense, affiliates, links, etc. However, I am sure the UPS members have probably given up their day job.
In reality it depends on the size and popularity of your site and the stage in its lifecycle. When a site is new / has few visitors it is difficult to generate a reliable income from affiliates and not practical to liaise directly with suppliers etc, so adsense is usually the best option. As the site (and its visitor numbers) grow, so do the options (banners based on pageviews, affiliate schemes with related products, etc) and these should be pursued as soon as practical, to spread the income streams around a bit and reduce dependence on adsense. But for a new start site I never heard of a valid alternative to adsense that will pay as well. If adsense was my only income I would be concerned, even if it was a very high amount. Which it isn't.
In the future its going to be less stressful because you are going to have the option of Adsense, YPN, and Msn Adcenter. So if something happens to one of your accounts you still have two for backup.
having three potentially good advertising network will make everything 100% better as long as you dont get banned from all three.
If you just start your Adsense, I think you shoudl consider it as a secondary income. When you have very high CPC, you may use it as your primary source of income. However, nothing lasts for forever. You should look for other opportunities.
I think earning through adsense has become more of a passion. But most of the subscribers have failed to generate income as a lot of reasearch has to be done before you start earning. The foremost is about choosing the appropriate keyword, just like Structured settlements, Mesothelioma, Acne, Life Insurance, Death Insurance, Bextra etc <script type="text/javascript"><!-- google_ad_client = "pub-5557813738563980"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; google_ad_format = "728x90_as"; google_ad_type = "text_image"; google_ad_channel =""; google_color_border = "FFFFFF"; google_color_bg = "FFFFFF"; google_color_link = "CC0000"; google_color_text = "FFFF66"; google_color_url = "FFBBE8"; //--></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"> </script> HTML:
I'd like to link to this article from Shoemoney's blog: http://www.shoemoney.com/2006/08/19/a-sale-is-made-on-every-website-visit/ He speaks about "compensation" that you need to put on your pages, in order not to lose traffic that is not interested in a direct sale. That is an example of him intending adsense as secondary income sources. Do content sites should look at adsense like this, and if so what should it be their primary source? Thank you for your great help in understanding!
I could easily live off my adsense and affiliate income; but would never make it my primary source (ie quit my day job) unless I had a few hundred grand banked. Why ? because as mentioned before in this thread, its too volatile. You have no control over things, google could cancel ur account or change or get rid of the whole adsense program, and then you'd be f*ked. Also I optimize my sites for the seach engines, fairly successfuly, but they could change their algorithm anytime, and then...? When you're making money as a 'middle man' on the net, you just don't have enough control to trust what is currently successful to keep bringing in the cash in the future.
I think of it this way; I consider adsense now as a secondary income source since I am just a starter. At this point, I lean on my job for my daily needs. Time comes that I'm earning more from adsense, I'd surely quit my daytime job. Who wants to go to a routine job anyway?
as soon as I earn as much as my day job pays il be quiting my day job for sure. If adsense and my other online income dies, then il just get another day job.
Secondary source of income definitely ...if u do make enough to consider it your main source, then i'd say set aside earnings to live off for couple of months of rainy days before quiting your job....atleast you got some time to recover if u suddenly loose your first page position for a big keyword or something like that.
