How to confirm if a payment was made?

Since my first website I have always been processing PayPal payments manually since I have no idea how to determine if a payment was made in a safe way that anyone with basic internet knowledge couldn't get around to fake their payment. Because of this my clients need to wait sometimes many hours to get their digital product when they could get it instantly because I now manually confirm the payment for every single order.

I heard of something that PayPal offers that can confirm a payment in a very secure way, can anyone tell me how and where to learn how to implement this into my order system (which I programmed myself from scratch so I can make any changes required to it).

    Thanks

You can use e-junkie and plimus to automate your process. Through e-junkie.com you can accept all kind of payments such as PayPal, 2CO, Credit Cards and more. Once your customer's payment is confirmed, they will be re-directed to download the product. You no need to do anything and it's completely automatic :)

I need the system that PayPal itself provides as I need to keep my own custom order process.

    Thanks
