How to compensate the amount of pages?

If we have 2 websites on the same topic and they both optimize for the keyword "X" they both have PR 4 for example and they have about the same amount of external links with the same importance (ideal condition). They are both well structured and all their pages are indexed and so on. The only difference is that the first one has 200 pages of content and the other has 50 000. The content itself is in fact only indirectly connected with the keyword(it's on the same topic but not actually mentioning the keyword). Obviously the site with more pages will rank better but my question is how you can compensate for such an enormous difference.

I am guessing you mean how can some one with a smaller website compete with a person who has a large website, well you mentioned the content having not much if any keywords. This is how you would go about competing with them making sure your content is keyword rich 5-9% of the content being the main keywords.

I hope this is ok and i did not misunderstand the question.

Yes, that's what I meant. But if I have high keyword density in my internal pages would that help my front page ranking for that keyword ? Because I already have high density on the home page and the competition does too :)

If you already have a high keyword density then you may just have to play the waiting game, upload more pages with more keywords and make sure every single page is optimized to the full. I have been optimizing my website for the last 5 months and i have only just finished optimizing my site.
