how to close the apparant death programs?

    It is very easy and doesn't need to ask!

    You may use task manager or regedit.

    If you open regedit, then go HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Desktop , set AutoEndTasks to 1 , restart windows, that is Ok.

    Define death program please... ??
    if you mean stuck/hang program, then you can open Task Manager, then End Task the application listed.
    or you can go directly to the Processes tab,and end the process. -> this is quicker
