Come the last day of this month I'll be renewing my business license, however, I'll be reclassifying myself. Currently I'm licensed to do business as a "Freelance Graphic Designer", which was enough for city hall as it's pretty self-explanatory But I'm doing that as an employee now and running my sites as my personal business now, and I'd like to re-classify myself (I keep saying "myself" because it's a sole proprietorship) as... well... whatever it is I'm doing, LOL. I'm not quite sure if there's an accepted term for what I call "Web/Online Entrepreneur", I'm sure that's not going to fly The various sites I have do different things (some sell, some don't, etc.) so I'm having a hard time nailing this down. Anybody else here who have business licenses, what do you put down as the "Description of Business" and "Classification"?
Internet Marketing should cover just about anything. Do you even need a local license if all the activity occurs elsewhere, as in online? If there is a fee based on net profit, I guess you do because the license is nothing but another form of taxation.
Hey Neighbor! I will be applying for my business-license for the first time sometime after the first of the year.. Please come back and post what you ended up doing, and any problems, etc.. My next step will be to open a business-bank account, which means I'll need a DBA and lord-knows what else.. Ohh the fun of learning new things..
I guess unless anyone else suggests something different, I'll go with some form of "marketing" Colbyt, according to my city's guidelines, yes, I do need a license, and I quote "whether or not the business is physically located" in the city. Technically, THE business (i.e. me) is physically located here, even though the business I CONDUCT is online Tearabite, I think the process depends on what city you're in and what your business is. Some cities don't even require a business license. Depending on what your business is, though, you might need something else even if you don't get a license, such as reseller permits, etc. In my city, the process is all too easy I simply submit the application, my check, meet with the planning/zoning board to make sure my kind of business is allowed in my neighborhood (which takes all of 5 minutes), and that's it!
Sketch we have the same rules here. The local leeches are master tax collectors. Never heard of one they did not love.
