How to choose the right keywords?

I'm having big problems with choosing KW for my clickbank products for the PPC campaign.

I found some KW with less competition but unfortunately they don't have much traffic either :s I only had 6 impression yesterday with 0 clicks :(

Can anyone please guide me? What' the right procedure for choosing the KW for PPC campaigns without loosing cash and making a decent profit?

    Thank You! :)

The way I do it is.... I spend a lot of money on different types of ad groups, campaigns etc... I then find which ones were the best, and delete the rest of them.

You don't have to have a KW with less competition. Competition means that it is probably a profitable KW.

    Here is my suggestion.
    1. Set your total campaign goal for the amount of the affiliate payout.
    2. Divide that amount by 4
    3. set that amount as your daily budget
    4. turn off the content network
    5. set your ads to only run from 7am -1am
    6. pick keywords that you personally would use if you were searching for this type of product.
    7. Get some "buzz" phrases from the merchants sales page
    8. add the word "Buy" at the front of appropriate phrases (then you get people looking to buy)
    9. pick a descent amount for the ppc. Typically .33 - .65 will get you very high. depends on the niche.
    10. run the campaign for 4 days(or until you blow the payout amount)
    11. If you get 1 sale, you broke even. If you get 2+ sales, profit city.

This is how you test a campaign. I must be feeling generous tonight to give away such gold. :D

I have found that most ads that I have personally made a consistent profit on lose money between 1am and 7am. I get sales here and there but when analyzing the data, I am paying more that I am making.

I could be different for certain niches but I have 9 profitable campaigns that have proven otherwise.

I am cheap and I am lazy. I say this to preface my answer. I do not use any software or tools for kw research.

I do however use a process. That process has proven to work for me.

As far as long tail kws go, they are more profitable. Of course you get so few clicks on most of them that it doesn't really matter. If your goal is to make a few sales here and there, it is great.

Trust me, I use long tail kws. However, to make money you have to go where the money is. I like the battle of being in the 1st 3 results of keywords that convert.

I have one keyword on one of my campaigns that I get 9 sales a day on sometimes. That works out to be about $300/day in sales on one keyword.

Now that kw isn't cheap but I am making a healthy profit on it every day.

Here is one more freebie hint on kws

Add the word "Buy" in front of your keywords as new keywords.

Example. You are advertising my new book Daily Profiting. You are using the kw phrase: Internet Marketing Book.Make one that says: Buy Internet Marketing Book

I will guarantee you that the people who search for Buy xxxxxxx are more likely to actually buy it than people who just search for xxxxxx.

i agree that long tail keywords are more profitable, but shouldn't you save yourself time by having a php script do the researching for you? I use a custom built wordtracker script to scrape keywords, coupled with the clickbank marketplace in a database and monitor google ads. So I can just click on a product and see all the ads and landing pages for each product that are performing. It's all run via a cron job so I save myself endless hours of research and that's what's important... make your time work for you.

Nice tips, but I would take it that you are not doing direct linking and the

recent google slap didn't get you

I am not a big fan of direct linking.

I have developed a cut and paste website design that I use for all my landing pages. It has proven to convert very well. I can create a landing page with unique header and get it online in less than an hour. that includes setting up the ppc as well.

Adding buy is nice but over 70% of the time people don't search for thing such as "Buy money making online book", they most likely to search for "money making online book".

Try bum marketing first with things like Squidoo and Blogger, then use this money for testing purposes on adwords at a later ponit, only way to get good data is to blow some money.

I would suggest to run a campaign 24/7 for a week.
    1) You will see the hours when you do NOT get sales
    2) You will see days when you do NOT get sales.

For instance, I am running a campaign that almost does NOT get sales on weekends - although I spend the same amount on PPC.

Monday to Thursday I get 8-14 sales a day
    Saturday-Sunday I get 1-3 sales a day

    ... every week it repeats.

Testing is the way to go with PPC
