How to Choose Right Domain Name???

Hi, DP friends, I want to share this with you.

The Web address of your site, which generally follows with a 'www.', is known as domain name and as an instance we can mention www.TodayIsp.com.
What makes a good domain name? The web address of your site should, by no means, be a difficult one to write or remember. It is supposed to be an aid, not a barrier. Well, for a domain name, you can definitely consider your company's name but at the same time, you can have a bias towards a phrase that promotes your own identity and your offerings.

To make yourself familiar with the kind of domain names that your users might prefer, it is expected that you take into consideration the opinion of others about your domain name choices.

Well, here I denote certain things that you need to fight shy of while registering a domain name to be used for your main company web site:

Avoid the use of hyphen because it enhances the possibility of forgetting your domain name while typing your name into the browser or even at the time of sending e-mail to you. This is problematic.
Strive not to use digits in your domain name. i.e. if it is 3.com, you have to make everybody aware that it is not 'three' but '3'.
Now, it's my turn to point out some positive things with regard to your domain name:

Well, though not necessary, it is better to use '.com' as a part of your domain name. You will get to see that people often forget addresses that end in '.net' or '.org' and on a more serious note, wrong address often becomes the destination of confidential e-mails.
Try to keep the spellings simple and it can just be better than others.
3 words or 20 characters should be its maximum length. So, make it as short as possible.
For your main company domain name, the above-mentioned aspects have to be taken into consideration with due importance. It is noteworthy that hyphens, numbers, and non-.com domain extensions can be applicable to your secondary sites. But, for your company's main domain, follow the above ones.

Should my domain name end with .com? Well, it goes without saying that '.com' extension is the most available one as far as the web sites are concerned. So, if possible, my suggestion would be to use '.com' as part of your domain name. But, now it's not easy to find good '.com' domains as most have been obtained.

It is of immense importance to clarify that '.com', '.net', '.org' actually indicated three different things. '.com' stands for commercial purposes, '.net' stands for network purposes and '.org' stands for non-profit purposes. But, this demarcating line has become fuzzy. Now, don't think about these and outs and choose any of the extensions available for domain names.

Use of uppercase or lowercase letters
As mentioned above, your domain name can have anything ranging from letters to numbers or even to dashes. Let me tell you that capitalization makes no difference at all.

Should I use dash in domain name? It's better for you to remember that you might face a situation where your desired domain name has already been purchased, whereas, the same name is available with a dash. Make yourself familiar with the problems of using dash, although, sometimes it remains as the only option for you.

    1) Using a dash in your domain name can be never ideal for communication. Users are likely to end up at a wrong site unless you tell them the proper place to put the dash and they put it perfectly. 2) Dash is never easy to use and common to type. It is often left out by people.
The Cost of a Domain Name
Well, you need to know that for your right to use the chosen domain name, you need to pay an annual fee that ranges from $6 to $50(varies according to the registration service). But, it doesn't let you purchase the domain name. It is just a rental service.

This entirely depends on your desire whether you choose the cheapest and the unknown or questionable registrants or not. I would just like to remind you that short-run saving might cost a long-run loss. The access control panel domain is surely an aspect of importance at the time of registration. As far as domain registrars are concerned, a good many of such allow modify domain hosting, managed DNS records, and even broaden the domain for the purpose of transferring the domain to another registrar through the Web interface without referring in particular to Support. This certainly lets you have the full control. One would hardly cross sword with the fact that you don't want to admit some mistakes made by the registrars once you have got the domain name and started working in order to develop it for the purpose of promoting your objects. This is truly tragic on your part.

So, to prosper properly on this track, make sure of the fact that your domain name is registered bearing in mind all the above-mentioned things.

Is there any Problem to let someone else manage My Domain name?
Well, there is not any problem to do so but it is expected that you remain the owner or administrative contact of the account to fight shy of any probable problems in the future. For an instance, you may not be able to edit the information in your domain name setup needed to shift your site files to a new web server in the future. Being not the owner or administrator of the domain name, you can't be able to direct browsers to your site's new location.

It is, indeed, very astonishing if you are satisfied with your domain name because over 20,000,000 domain names have already been registered. Honestly speaking, it is quite natural that your purchasing the domain name exerts an influence on the choice of your domain name. Not only that, in the future it can inspire you to think about an unregistered name that can be secured. Having said this let me remind you that it is always wise to go for a perfect domain name from its current owner giving a suitable amount. For this, you need to have a handsome amount in your pocket.

You are expected to be a marketer who researches and this research on this subject makes you familiar with a mixed bag of opinions. Your choosing of domain name can be sometimes discouraging as well. But, two common points are there.

At the very outset of your business plan, choose your domain name. This is ideal in a competitive market.
Once you choose a name, make it first to select.
To conclude, let me inform you that even if you haven't resolved your business plan, purchase the domain names that have fascinated you. It is not very expensive if it is bought at an affordable registrar like TodayISP. In the future, you can resell it and can even enrich it with creative content. But, once you don't buy it, you may not get it in the future.

Where Can I Register a Domain Name?

You register your domain name through a domain name registrar (or partner site).

To register your domain name, enter your preferred domain into the search form. If it's available, simply proceed to the checkout.
Here are more details on registering your domain name.

Check Availability (opens in new window)

This is where you check that your preferred domain name hasn't already been registered by somebody else. A domain name can only be registered to one person at any one time, so if someone else has already registered it, you won't be able to (or you can put it on back order). Of course, the good thing about this is that, once you register your own domain name, nobody else can get it - it's yours for as long as you want it to be!
If the domain is not available, try again using an alternative name.
If the domain is available, continue to checkout.
This part is just like purchasing any other product online. You simply follow the prompts through to the checkout. You may be offered related products, such as similar domain names or different top level domains. To add these to your order, click "YES! Add these to my order.". Otherwise click "Continue to checkout".

Note that you must supply up to date contact details. Domain name registrars won't let you register a domain name without providing these details. This is a requirement by ICANN (see below for info on ICANN).

Who is the Worldwide Authority for Domain Names?
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the organization responsible for top-level domains. Top level domains include .com, .org, .net, and much more.

Although ICANN is responsible for top-level domains, you can't actually go directly through them to register your domain name. You have to go through an accredited domain name registrar or partner site.

ICANN operates the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and is in charge of maintaining the DNS root zone.

    About Domain Name Registrars
Domain name registrars are companies accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and/or by a national ccTLD authority to register Internet domain names. These companies are often web hosting companies who offer a range of website-related services.

Whatever it is, do not frequent your search for a particular name for availability in any lookup tool / search engine

I missed one great name : "Offloads.com". Sometime back (more than a year) i checked the availability of this domain for few times. Next week its gone......

I have a huge catchy domain name list........... will see what happens.

Many domain registrars accept credit card payment method, same as Paypal.
