a very nice and simple interpretation which can help a lot in keyword research and analysis, I would personally recommend the scale of 1000 to 10000( in title) to go after for any keyword.
I usually analyse the competition using the google adwords keywords tool. It shows a brief idea on the competition of the keywords.
Thanks for sharing this useful information with snap shot but when we look for simple keyword competition we place just keyword and check total competition.

Great Method to find low competitive keywords, There are certain peoples that use Google keyword tool only to find out low competitive keywords, and in my opinion its not correct even if it shows low actually its not..Thanks for the post..
It's a great idea to always target the keywords that have little to low competition if you want some reasonably quick results, than to waste your time targetting a keyword you have no hope of getting ranked for
how do i check... who ranks for particular words and i'm not talking about just typing the word into google and seeing what appears
that's a good starting point but then you should look at your competitors and see their page rank, if they have the keyword in the domain name, how many backlinks do they have, domain age, etc; if you go against well established websites that are keyword optimized and with thousands of backlinks then you can say good bye to the first page.
