How to check my list of directories and see which ones are good ?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by bloggingfulltime.com, Apr 4, 2007.

I have a big list of directories but i don't know which ones are good...

    What do you recommend ?

    1. Check PR.
    2. Check backlinks (quantity and quality)

I have one problem here... There are a lot of sites where you can check for backlinks number and their quality but... they show pagerank for every single link. I want something like : 17 backlinks from sites with PR=?

    Know what i mean ?

What else to check before submitting to directories ? Plz help.

why don't you just submit to all your list? they can't harm you.. as long as you don't link to them

Hmmm... i read that links from weak directories (or sites/blogs) will harm your PR. I don't have PR yet. It's 0... but i don't know :(

well.. if you start with the idea that you're not any of these better don't start.. I've started with the idea that I am or can be better then them... and I'm ok, I am right now looking for such spammy sites to test on a domain of mine and see if is affected even though I am 98% sure it doesn't.
EDIT: and even if you are not any of these, Google should treat you as one... can't see any reason not to

I seriously doubt that a link from a low PR or weak directory will "harm" your PR. Low PR links may not contribute to your own PR as much as higher PR links, but I can't see them causing harm or reducing your PR.

At worse I believe a poor quality link would be ignored as opposed to it being scored against you.

A lot of blogs use "nofollow". If a blog doesn't, then it's just like any other link... it just happens to be on a blog.

yes, wordpress has default of nofollow for blog comments... generally not worth your time if your going for backlinks... Unless you want to actually share your comment :)

Backlinks should not harm your rankings or your PR.

It basically comes down to inbounds can't hurt you only outbounds can however some outbounds can actually help. A site on Google for example should probably have a link to Google.

That said in unique cases you can get nailed for multiple links from "bad neighborhoods" but if your at that level of blackhat SEO link building you're at another level and know what you're doing anyways. I don't think you accidentally trip into that scenario.

Just get as many quality links and sure a lot of not so quality as well.

Thats the weirdest thing I have heard:eek:

As per as I am concerned no backlink --(except ofcourse Adult/gambling) should harm either your PR or SERPs. The more links you have --the more rank you get on both front. But to get PR --you must have high PR backlinks.:)

I'm pretty sure even lower quality IBLs don't harm you. If the SEs did discount your site for low quality links then it would be trivial to destroy the competition with lots of low quality IBLs.

just get the high pr directories, pr3,4+ atleast, and it will be fine.
there is no harm in pr0 sites, rather they will get high pr later on, and it is easy to get in those directories now, later it will not be easy:)
