For those who don't use these techniques already: http://www.busybits.com/files/directorychecking.php
Pagestrength already answers you those questions without you having to look it up. All you gotta do is look at backlinks and youll know how often spiders crawl the site
You are wrong, the number of backlinks can be very high for some sites but they are not often crawled and don't even have high PR if those backlinks are spammy or unimportant.
I would stick the the page Strength on this one. The site gives no information unless I'm missing something
Sorry show me a site that has 100,000 backlinks according to yahoo and hasnt been cached by google in the past week. All major directories last catch was on dec 12 or dec 10 it seems after a quick check.
It's not only about main pages of directories, it's about categories and subcategories...there is where you get the link after all, not on the main page
I would have to agree. That's like saying which directory is better because their sports section got cached today.
Yes, method 1 can be about luck sometimes, but I've been constantly checking on some directories considered of "top" and their cached pages were always very old(I dont want to name any) And about method 2, backlinks from some directories show in the backlinks list even after the scrapped backlinks which are the lowest quality...if you know what I mean
Uhm if you see it just as that youll fall in the same hole other directories have fallen now... i see many going around spamming non english wikipedias to get wiki links... and other unethical stuff... just build up backlinks and take care of your directory.
