IETester on Windows 7, especially 64 bit is a buggy unstable train wreck.

My advice is install Sun VirtualBox, install XP and update it to IE7 (Do NOT allow it to go to 8) then install the tredosoft standalones.

Kind of sucks to not run them native - kind of rocks since it puts browsers you cannot trust on things like security in a sandbox where they don't even get the opportunity to **** your host OS.

I know a lot of people who use IETester, though I too have heard that there are bugs.

With VirtualBox, instead of an IE6 emulator, you are getting the real thing: IE6 alone on Windows. But your computer has to be beefy enough to run it. I'm not sure but I suspect it's more power or memory hungry than a simple dual-boot. I'm running two VirtualBoxes: one has IE7 and Tredosoft IE6 and 5, while the other has a native IE6. Whenever I drop support for IE6, I'll throw IE8 on it.

Tredosoft Multiple IE (google it) is pretty decent/ok as far as rendering goes, but you cannot test it for things such as Javascript or Flash: Tredosoft IE's installed on a machine with IE7 will use IE7's JS engine and treat Flash the same way as IE7 does. So you could likely get away with plain rendering tests with Tredosoft.
*edit no duh, Tredosoft hasn't started working on vista or win7 yet. It's only an option for the WIndowsXP user who wants to test multiple IE's.
