I create a spreadsheet of all links I create, or exchange, to keep tally of the inbound and outbound links.
There is no way you can know ALL the back links coming to your website. Google command Link:www.yourwebsite.com will tell the least backlinks. Yahoo will tell far more but never all. Other services that claim to tell you all the back links are not telling the truth. They themselves use search engines to find out number of back links.
you can visit http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ and enter your page's domain. it will show all links to your site, including internal links. if you want to see your back links of this one page, you just need select the "except from this domain" in the dropdown menu "show inlinks" and if you want to backlinks of the entire site, you can select the "entire site" in the dropdown menu. yahoo can acurately show the number of backlinks of your site, but if only show one thousand pages whick link to you.
