How to check backlinks?

So what is the official/non-official way to check back links?

I google search THIS and get 231 backlinks.

Then with the Google toolbar (while at my site, http://rygo.net) I click the PageRank thing and click Backward Links. This shows that I have 0 backlinks.

I know that the first search is legitimate, and all of those should be backlinkds.. and I KNOW I don't have 0 backlinks.

So what is it?

 

Yahoo is better then google to check your baklinks.

depends if its your google backlinks you wanted to see

i prefer google webmaster tools as google search does not show all your backlinks

There are hundreds of backlinks checker tools available on the net but according to me none are perfect and give exact figure, better i would suggest to use Yahoo Site Explorer it will give you more reliable result.

Different Backlink (BL) checkers use different search mechanisms, so they almost all give different results. Next thing is evaluation of what is a backlink. Forum signature link under let's say 2,000 posts can be one link for one bl checker or 2,000 links for another.

Google backlinks (type in Google: link:domain) usually show low link count since they have strict evaluating. Beside that, Google only updates BL count every few months. Last Google BL update was few weeks ago. If you get additional backlinks, they will be only shown after next BL update.

Yahoo backlinks, checked with Yahoo site explorer shows a lot backlinks (no other tool show them so many, as I know).

Backlinkwatch.com shows a PR of a site from where a backlinks come, and ANCHOR TEXT used which both seems to be a HIGH VALUE information.

What Google claims, not only backlinks evaluated from Google but the sum of backlinks in major search engines - link popularity - is a factor which affect ranking in Google.

The problem with the backlinks shown by Yahoo is that they include those that have nofollow attached (they don't give nofollow ones any importance, but they show them). So it might say that you have 2000 backlinks but only 200 of them might be good ones.

Smart pagerank has a very useful tool for backlink analyzing , www.smartpagerank.com

 

Google is just not showing many backlinks with this command. However in Google Webmaster console you'll find them. What is good is that there you see what they count as a backlink.
Apart from that http://www.backlinkwatch.com/ is a great tool.

 

You could use a tool like http://www.checkmypagerank.us - it shows backlinks, too.

Check it manually for accurate results. If you search for your links in google it only shows random sample of your backlinks but if you have an account in google webmastertools you can see more of your links.
