I check it via backlink checker.
Or you can write link:site name in Google and can check.

Use back link checker for this purpose or you can also check manually by writing link: site name in Google.

I used backlinkwatch.com and I was not able to see an increase to my backlinks, I have done forum postings and blog commenting.. Why is it like that?

Because the links would need to be indexed by Google or Yahoo for them to show up.

Try iWebTool's free backlink checker tool. When you search with the keyword "backlink checker tool" on Google, it was on the top 10 results.

I think you meant link:domain.com instead of site:domain.com. But this does not reliably show all incoming links (Yahoo Site Explorer does a better job in my opinion, and Google Webmaster Tools as well). But Google will be aware of incoming links sooner than it reveals it (even in webmaster tools). On my last new site, I knew when Google found my new incoming links, because it reordered the search results of site:domain.com, making the ones with the links show first. Then Webmaster Tools a couple weeks later showed it, then month(s) later, it might show up in link:domain.com, but not always. Yahoo always shows more links than Google, for whatever reason.

    Backlinkwatch sucks.
i think this site is better: www. dirgio.com/ba/

~> it can show you your point of each backlink and removes duplicated backlinks.

Backlink Watch is good, there's also Market Samurai or Yahoo Site Explorer.
Blue Backlinks is another but I think they're under construction right now

There are several tool to check back links but it is not sure that their results are accurate.I think we should worry only about SERP.not for Back links. you can check backlink through link operator. type link:full path of url in google. then go to last page.

in previous i was using baclinkwatch.
But i fed up with it i use Web Page Rank and SEO Tool in Google Chrome Plug in .
It show your backlink from Google , Yahoo, Bing, Show page Rank and even show which site is do follow or not follow.
