hey guys can you give me a little advice on how to charge for SEO work? I have done a few in the past and my clients where very happy, brought them to top ten in Google for keywords that had 2.5 million results. My new client is a shipping software provider, I will be optomizing their pages, creating backlinks, writing articles and customizing an effective adwords campaign. Any advice would be appreciated.
I know some people work with success rates to. Define goals and price them. How much is making these goals worth to the client?
I am also confused regarding charging. If someone charges per keyword, should it be for permanent rankings ?
Some quotes from 'established' SEO providers. First there is a upfront fee which go by number of keywords, e.g. 20, 30 for a few low thousands, include current website analysis, keyword research, web copy writing and web redesign( if neccesaary to be spider friendly). Then there is a monthly fees to build/buy links, submit to SE and Directories in the mid hundreds to a thousand per month (e.g. 6 months). PPC campaigns(e.g. Adwords) is optional and extra charges.
My rates start at 1500 monthly. This includes various reports about the current state of affairs, and weekly analytics reports. This figure is based loosely on a rate of 100 dollars hourly. As I am well referenced, its usually a pretty easy sell. I hope that helps. Don't sell yourself short Nigel
If I was shopping for a SEO company this is the only way that I would pay. While we all need to make our "hourly rate" clients understand results. Nobody cares how long the results take.....just the end results and the price tag.
That's true, but it's not easy to value a top ranking. I mean, let's say you run a little carshop in some small town (let's say 500 000 people live there) and you sell mainly Toyota and Suzuki. You would probally want to rank for "toyota cityname" and "suzuki cityname". How much would you say a top ranking for this is worth? I really don't think there is a solution that fits everyones needs perfectly.
I think charging per hour is like killing your customer... If I am the customer, I would better pay per keyword...
