I have created my own ad rotator for my site. I'm wondering how most people charge their clients... By PayPal, or what? Thanks!
not too much..... Maybe 10 cents per click? Which confuses me... Do most of you do have your advertisers pre-pay, or do you charge them later? Thanks!
ok, but one question.... It seems like doing it via paypal would require a lot of work. They would send you money and then you would have to see who sent it and then put up there ad.... Is there any way to create a link to paypal... Like as soon as they send their money that info is sent back into a database of mine....???? I know php and mysql and javascript, so its no the problem of automatically getting the ad up, its checking to see if they've paid for each ad request..
That's a pretty nice idea, but usually customers would want to be one of only a small select group of advertisers for your site. The implementation you are considering would basically put no limit to the number of advertisers that could join your site, all paying 10 cents per click? I usually see CPM options running between $8 and $20 depending on whether it's a leaderboard or rectangular box ad. I like the idea of basically creating your own adsense ad rotation with all dedicated advertisers, have you had a lot of inquiries for advertising on your site? What type of page views / UV are you getting per month right now?
Yeah, use PayPal IPN to achieve that. You might want to include Payment Data Transfer if you're dealing with high volumes, but if you have the resources to check the transactions manually, don't worry about it.
Have you thought of setting up your own Merchant account? Today a majority of credit card transactions are sent electronically to merchant processing bank for authorization, capture and deposit. The method of processing credit cards will vary by industry. In all circumstances either the entire magnetic strip is read by a swipe through a credit card terminal/reader or the credit card information is manually keyed in to a credit card terminal, a computer or website. Whenever practical it is best to swipe a credit card because the rates will be much lower and the incidence of stolen credit card number fraud is greatly reduced. Merchant accounts are marketed to merchants by two basic methods: either directly by the bank that will perform the processing, or by an authorized agent for the bank and additionally directly registered with both Visa and MasterCard as an ISO/MSP (Independent Selling Organization / Member Service Provider). Marketing details are by card issuers like Visa and MasterCard, and are enforced by various rules and fines. The merchant account industry has developed a reputation that is not very favorable at times. This seems to be directly linked to companies that are not registered with Visa and Mastercard and use high pressure marketing tactics with 100% commissioned salespeople. As with any contractual relationship, it is important to become as informed as possible, before any commitment. Merchants have few third party resources to guide them in the process of full evaluation of the many providers. The most widely used third party is the Better Business Bureau BBB --or Merchant Service Bureau [1] these maintain a list of most providers with a rating based on the number of complaints and how the complaints were addressed.
