    Hi ,

I need help with changing my DNS on wordpress.com . I have recently got a hosting account with hostgator & the hostgator nameservers for this site are ns1199.hostgator.com & ns1200.hostgator.com , but my site is presently hosted at wordpress.com.

I have managed to find the page from where I can change the DNS inside my wordpress.com account & it says that it supports these 5 formats :

    MX <pref> <host>
    TXT <text>
    CNAME <subdomain> <host>
    A <subdomain> <IP>
    SRV <_service._protocol> <priority> <weight> <port> <domain>

But I don't know which is the format that matches the nameservers of my new host (Hostgator). I have already tried entering the nameservers as they are (ns1199.hostgator.com & ns1200.hostgator.com )& saving them, but without any success. Can someone tell me how I can replace my nameservers at wordpress.com with my new hostgator nameservers? Thanks

I don't think you can, it's a sub-domain you're using on their domain. You'll have to register a domain and change the dns info at the registrar to point to hostgator. I've never used the wordpress.com version, but it seems they allow you to export the files, but I'm not familiar with the file format, but I assume you'll be able to import it back into the self hosted version.

    Is your url: something.wordpress.com?

If so, you will need to buy your own domain name yourdomain.com (try godaddy). Then when you have your own domain in GoDaddy account you can put in your Name servers from HostGator.

But you will have to reinstall Wordpress again or try copying all your files over.
