I'm first time here and have some questions

First of all, I'm looking to build a directory with my limited knowlege on programing. I can basically install a script, but can't do anything after that. Probably adding adsense on website is all i can do. What would be the simple and easiest way to redesign the site?

    I'm thinking of using http://phplinkdirectory.com/

    what do you guys think?

any recommendation on script/skin would be helpful

Yea, there are a ton of people outside of the company that provide supports and ad-ons for the scripts more than any other directory scripts i know of.

Changing the scripts is easy, it's easier on the phpld paid version as it has it's own template section where you need not have to overwrite your current templates, if needed to go back to that skin you can reactivate it from the admin area.

The free version where you simply drag and drop the new templates using your favorite FTP and simply over write the existing template files. Follow what it says on the Read Me files that came with the template and also do a back up just incase you downloaded the wrong version of the template in which some comes with different versions and may not work right with the version you have.

So back up first, then change.

Id definately recommend the phpLD script - get yourself started with the free version and give it a go. There are loads and loads of free templates avaliable but if you've got some dollars you can always get someone to create something a little more... unique.

If you choose phpld directory, everything will be easy. Easy and quick set up, easy to change the skins, easy to load the category structures.

These are the sites that give away free templates

    www.phpldtemplates.info
    www.phpld.com

Also search for free PHPLD templates in Google or another major search Engine you may find more
