You need to start up your own hosting account first and then transfer the blog to that account.

Whether u are talking about creating hosting account with wordpress?? I have already created account for current blog. Can't i just upgrade it. And it has any cost or it is free???

You need to find a webhost and then register a domain name. Once you have done this you can transfer the blog to your new webspace on your new webhost.

Sounds like you may need to learn a little more about what web hosting, server and domain name mean. Mad4 explained it correctly, there is really not a better way to explain it.

Assuming that you already have domain+hosting account, first step would be to install wordpress and get it going. Then you need to 'transfer' your posts from hosted wordpress.com to your site.

If your blog is has less posts, you can do it manually, or you will have to find a script to import your existing blog from wordpress.com. I do'nt know scripts are available, but there must be something (import using RSS, atom feed etc)

It sounds to me like he just wants to have a domain name point to his existing WP.com account, using a domain forward or domain alias.

Either way, the domain name won't work nicely because URLs to any page besides the main page (for example somedomain.com/blog/post-12.html) will not work.

So if you just want to use somedomain.com to get people to your site, look up domain forwarding, domain alias or domain masking. If you want people to link to or bookmark your posts using your custom domain, you'll need to host your blog somewhere else.

I have a similar question, and perhaps I can phrase it more clearly.

I am looking at possibly purchasing a website that is a wordpress blog.

I know how to install WP: I have the domain, hosting, and database set up. My question is HOW to TRANSFER the existing blog into the newly created one, so they are exactly the same.

Once I have wordpress all set up on the new domain, is there an easy way to import the exiting blog into the new set-up, or is it some manual process? I know WP has a sweet tool to import a blogger blog, I would think they would have something similar to import a WP blog? Do you need to save the database from the first site and then get that on the 2nd site? I know so little.

    Thanks.

You can export the database of existing blog (using phpmyadmin) and import it into your new database. There is wordpress plug-in to backup database, that can also be used to export data/posts from wordpress.

    I can offer to help!

I see it in my blog in the Import section, just above the option to import from Blogger.

Poway is in San Diego County.

Backup your blog and upload it to your new host!

    First use a backup program:
    httrack

then upload the files to your blog on your own host and that's it

I think browntwn & dshah understand my question perfectly.

I want to 'transfer' my blog's posts from hosted wordpress.com to my site. With my wordpress account where is the option to change hosting to my site.

My blog has too many post, so i can't do it manually.

I don't think it is a setting you change on your wordpress.com blog. You just need to back it up (using one of the suggested methods)

    (1) Back up old blog, (2) set up new empty blog with database on new domain, (3) upload old content to new blog. (4) Delete or whatever to old blog.

I think if I understand the help those are the steps. As I said in my question I am looking at a potential purchase so I have not tried any of this yet.
