Hello - suppose a domain expires on 15 oct, when can I catch it and register it ? 16 oct ? many thanks for advice .
Drop catchers get first dibs if it's a decent name. Depending on where it's registered at, it may even go into auction and sell to the highest bidder.
anyone knows if a domain name is scheduled to expired say on 15 oct, what time eastern / pacfic / mountain on oct 15 is the domain available for registration ? Someime I do not know whether the expired time is not reached yet or someone has snatched that name. Many thanks for advice.
search for this in google, i read a great blog about one guys experience catching an expiring domain. There was a lot more involved than I thought, if I find the blog again I will link it in this thread. Found it: http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2005/03/how-to-snatch-an-expiring-domain
When a domain expires it is not immediately available to re-register. It first goes into an (up to) 45 day period during which the original owner can renew at regular price. It then goes into a 30 day Redemption Grace Period during which the original owner can renew by paying a penalty (can be up to $200). It then goes into a 5 day 'pending delete' period and then drops and is available for anyone to register. Some registrars may have shorter expiry & RDG periods.
it all depends on the tld authority. for example .ca they process the domains being dropped around 2 to 3 pm EDT.. it really depends on the registrars. you can try some drop catchers to get your domain of your dreams. I am actually looking to find similar info for all tlds as I am working on developing a domain catcher system. who knows if it work it might become popular here... best of luck
Possibly the 1st one to get it, lol and if 10 people do it on 1 registrar they organise a bid, your money will go like a donation if you don have backup funds to capture the domain. And remember for everything there is a reason. The drop of a domain can be associated with some reason.
Whom ever registrars that query availability for the domain first since the domain becomes available have a better chance to register it for you. It all depends on the frequency of these queries, they need to make sure that they don’t abuse/overload the system otherwise they will get banned from sending queries for a period of time. If there is a domain that I want I would try to use more than one company to get that domain. And as indicated with the previous post if more than one person backorder the same domain through the winning registrar then it would go into auction and the person who dashes the most money gets the domain after the auction closes. Hope this helps.
But I saw many expired domains re-registered on the 75th day - 45 days after expiring date plus 30 days grace period . Did not go into 5days "pending deletion" period ??
This has always been an interesting topic to me. There is no set rules to it which I think in many cases there should be. I have always seen many registers ask for back order the domain. Or, enom using the offer system that has to be over $200.00.
Backorder them in Pool or Godaddy or SnapNames. We are not able to register them manually because they have powerfull softwares which can register valuable domains in seconds.
