    Hi,

The other week, I brought a second hand Mac.

I turned it on, and a thing called "OS X Utilities" comes up.

I go into "Reinstall OS X".

It says "To set up the installation of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, click Continue", I click continue.

A dialog come up and says "To download and restore OS X, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple", I click Continue.

It comes up with license agreement for OS X Mountain Lion, I click Agree.

It now ask me "Select the disk where you want to install OS X", so I click on the one that's called 'Untitled', and click continue.

It's now asking me for my Apple ID, I sign in. Now I get an error "This Apple ID has not purchased Lion."

I've look on the internet from where I can purchase OS X 10.8, and cannot find it any ware.

    Can someone please help?

    Regards,
    Chris.

You can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store. It costs $19.99.

I'm not sure if the free upgrade is still available but check the Apple website to see if you're eligible for a free upgrade. I got mine! :D

I've got the exact same problem, bought secondhand macbook air where mountain lion had been erased by seller, so i get the opt to reinstall when i turn on power. i also get the same error message, so i suppose i need to buy mountain lion in app store. however i'm just too stoopid to actually be able to make the purchase.

I'm beginning to remember why I ran ubuntu on my macbook pro last time I had a Mac....

I actually had to borrow a mac and log int to the appstore application to buy mountain lion, couldn't purchase it from apple in a browser.

I'm sure such stores that you describe - one selling mountain lion online - exists, but the really useful info here - the url - seems to be missing.

Not really, but thanks anyway :)

There is a link to "Download iTunes" on that page and a link to "Application Licence Agreement". The latter says "Object not available for the moment in your region" or some such, when i click. So I download iTunes instead and install it (even if it is already installed). After that and a restart of Firefox, the same button says "View in Mac App Store" - a step in the right direction. So I push the button, and get "To download Apple’s OS X Mountain Lion, you need to have iTunes." and the same "Download iTunes" button. Infinite loop.

So what I needed to do was to purchase ML on a working Mac via App Store, logged in with my Apple Id, then the purchase was registered on my id, and the reinstall procedure on the rescue disk on my mac was unlocked, and from there and out; sheer bliss.

Actually purchasing it, in order to install it on a freshly formatted mac, without another mac available, seems impossible. My friendly local mac-dealer would have charged me 100$ to fix it, I was told. Luckily Ubuntu runs just splendidly on the hardware, so if I ever end up in a similar clusterf*ck ...
