Hello everyone, I am new, and instead of a normal introduction, I thought I'd try and contribute to the forum on something I know how to do well - find and sell (or keep) quality domain names. All the resources are free and I use these steps: 1. I go to http://www.wsmdomains.com/help/expireddaily.html and download any list. But keep in mind that most registrants have a grace period of 5 days before the domain is available again for registering. So I usually pick a list 6 days old or older, or I get little or no results. 2. Download the domain filter (free) at this URL: http://www.alouwebdesign.ca/free-downloads/domain-name-filter.htm . With this software, I can import my list and set up filters of all sorts, based on length, prefix, suffix, etc. I can also add a list of words that can be anywhere in the domain name. Example: .com names are worth more than others so I will filter the others out by adding ".com" to my filter. Now it will only find .com names. Example 2: Domain names with the word "loan" in them sell well, so I would add "loan" to my filter. 3. After I filter my list, I now copy 500 names at a time to http://www.moniker.com/domains/batch_reg.jsp . It is a bulk domain registration tool, and there may be others I don't know of. It allows 500 maximum names, which is plenty. Now I can see which names are available and pick names I want from that list. I'll give you some words that are good for domains (for use in the filter): free car cheap discount love foreclosure If you look at what sold for a lot on eBay you can easily see some other valuable words to add to your filter list. I might also make a video tutorial of how to use the filter if enough people are interested. Hope this helps! Sherry
Sherryhan, Your information is EXACTLY what I've suggested for some time now. People that want to buy/sell domains should get real. NOBODY searches for some of these weired 3 & 4 letter domains, so if you're not going to develop them into saleable properties, your only hope is to pawn 'em off on some other person who thinks they've found the mother load. Another good idea.. Do a keyword search in the area your interested in. Get a copy of GoodKeyWords.com, and then get their domain search tool. (both free). Start to mix & match your keywords in LOGICAL order to design domain names. Pete
May I add to this guide: Mind block? Can't think up of any good ideas? Go here: http://domainfellow.com/ Enter in your keyword, tld, category, and if you want the keyword to be in the front [choose suffixes] or in the end [choose prefixes].
Pete, I agree with you. 4/5 letter domain names are hard to sell unless it's somewhat pronounceable. Even then, I can only probably sell it for 20 bucks. I've sold some much longer domains for $500 or more and I don't even deal with shorter domains anymore. Sherry
Thanks for the tips, but I can't find any available domains. Am I looking for domains that are too popular?
So after we have a domain we "think" is a winner. Where is a good place to try and sell it? Or is there some place that can rank our domain to see what it might be worth? Thanks for all your tips, they are very helpful.
I do something very similar but my software (made inhouse) also searches backlinks / PR / Alexa Ranking / Archive.Org Gives a full background for the domain. And to top it off it also checks all the google datacenters just in case its a fake domain
Just to say I picked up a nice domain called mycustomusb.com Its a PR4 domain. All I will do is build a mini site around this domain and sell it probably for around £500- £2000 depending on the market. All for the price of $8 and 3 hours work
Wow! I haven't seen a tip, or tips rather, like this since I joined DP. No one EVER volunteers this much information about their methods for making money. Sherry, you should be selling this for 10% of your daily or weekly profits!!!
Have you sold, or considered selling, your software? It along with Sherry's guide could bring some nice profits.
